POOL CLOSURE NOTICE!
Dear MTR Family:
To keep you informed, a decision has been made tandem with Board Leadership to close the pool indefinitely. As work has progressed on the seawall over the past several months, along with the rainy summer season and torrential rains caused by Hurricane Milton, there has been a noticeable change in the pool structure where cracks have begun to appear, along with shifting in the paver surface along the east side of the pool. After Milton the cracks have created extreme leaking causing the pool to lose water daily, as the pavers on the east side of the pool continue to sink and move.
We have been in contact with Keystone Engineering and our pool technician to advise us on the best way to handle this situation both in the short term and the long term. Both have advised draining the pool until the seawall is complete and the needed repairs can be made. They did not advise completing repairs while the seawall is still under construction as the repairs may not hold, and would put the pool structure at further risk.
The movement around the pool is due to the old seawall drainage that caused us to build a new seawall. Water is getting behind the old seawall and that weight is forcing sand to go under the old seawall. This has also caused pipes for the pool to break, more than once, as well as cracks in the pool shell. The leaking water from the cracks and the pipes is causing more erosion which is making the situation worse. Keystone is concerned about refilling the sand beneath the pavers as the old seawall is continuing to fail.
Any additional weight from added sand may cause total failure and takeout both the new seawall, and the pool.
It’s important to understand that this situation is not the responsibility of the contractor as this situation was here prior to them starting work
on the new seawall.
The new seawall is estimated to be completed by early January.
We will be consulting with pool renovation experts and our structural engineer during this time to assess the timing, cost and scope of needed repairs so that the pool can reopen before the Spring season in 2025.
We appreciate your understanding and support while we continue to work to both improve and preserve the MTR resort.
Thank you,
Mark
